Starting at the Jenny Wren end of the main access, taking the first path on the left will lead you around the boundary path and back past the community built replica woodhenge to the Railway Arch end of the main access.

This walk leads you around the young native woodland planted in the late 1990's. Watch out for dragonflies, butterflies, bees and beetles on the thistles, common hogweed and Bristly Oxtongue in the glades. Once at the Water Pumping station on the left, you can take a short cut to the right which will pass Pyramidal Orchids, turn right at the Guelder-rose to carry on.
If not taking the short cut, carry on around to find a more open space where once watercress beds were used in Victorian times. Following the boundary path will take you past the Guelder-rose and then to the shelter-belt of Poplar trees which are a remnant of the land use in the nineteenth century.
Now the woodhenge is in sight. This is a community built replica of the nearby discovery of a Neolithic woodhenge by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in 2012. Just beyond the woodhenge the path goes through the relict hedgerow which is ideal for small birds nesting or roosting. The path narrows through more close plantings and emerges in another glade where insects abound, and the main access path is directly ahead.

Starting at the parking, along Andrews Walk, enter the wood and climb the gentle slope. Once at the top listen out for chiffchaff, goldcrest, robin, dunnock, wren and blackbird. Continue on, veering to the left with the Grove Park School and the Rugby pitches on your right there are yew trees leading to the ground level remains of the old house.
The old house was built in 1770 on the lands of Bobbing Manor by the Irish aristocrat cousins Arthur & Booth Gore. A house with 8 bedrooms, cellars, stables and walled garden on the hill would have enjoyed great views looking down upon the Watling Street and the fields and orchards of Borden further south.
Look out for remnants of garden plants within the native secondary woodland flora.
Turning left towards the cricket ground to join the impressive open path through the avenue of specimen trees including English oak, beech, sweet chestnut, Turkey oak & sycamore, imagine the view back in the late 18th century south. Listen out for the Great-spotted woodpeckers nearby. At the end of these mature trees turn right down the hill and back to the entrance.

This beautiful site is in a very rural location and there are walks to suit all, with plenty of carparking. There's even an adjacent community orchard and walks to the nearby Gorham and Admirals Woodland or to the North Downs Way, with views across to the Weald.

The only parking is at the Bicknor village church, which lies around 200m from the wood entrance. Walking down the lane from Bicknor church towards the entrance to the woods and once in follow the path down to the valley floor.

The woods contain 52 Ancient Woodland Indicator plants! These include stunning arrays of bluebells, wood anemones, herb paris and several orchids. There are also over 400 species of fungus!

Cromer’s Wood is traditionally managed and covers approximately 28 hectares. It has beautiful ancient ash pollards which contain rare fungi, and there is a wonderful display of flowers in spring. The woodland and has several trails and informal pathways. Cycling and horse riding is allowed on marked trails. There is a hide by the pond for visitors wanting to observe birds and wildlife. The main car park is closed, however there is parking at the entrance to the wood for 4 vehicles..

Perry Wood is popular with many visitors. There is a mix of chestnut coppice woodland with hilltop Scots pine, birch, heather and bracken - a less common habitat in Swale. The views are panoramic and unforgettable. There's plenty of information on site and at www.perrywood.org.uk
